New York City’s Best Summer Secrets

Ah, New York in the summer; the bustle of the people, the energetic atmosphere and the endless attractions. While there are many hot spots around “the big apple” there are two special venues that the locals swear by: Turtle Bay and 230 Fifth.

Turtle Bay

If you’re looking to dance the night away with a live DJ Wednesday-Saturday or catch the Yankees game on 25 HD plasma TVs, Turtle Bay might just be the spot for you. It’s also the best spot in NYC to find a “date” for Turtle Bay was voted the #1 best hookup bar by the NY post!

If Summer is your perfect excuse to throw a party then great news: Turtle Bay makes it easy for you to plan your shin dig online; visit http://www.turtlebaynyc.com/ and check out your options on the right hand side. Their convenient open bar party packages allow you to book a great night for your guests for only $20-$40 a person.

Located at 230 Fifth Ave (only a few subway stops away from Turtle Bay) is the famous 230 FIFTH nightclub. Voted NYC’s #1 Rooftop Garden and Fully Enclosed Penthouse Lounge, 230 FIFTH invites you to enjoy their 365 degree view of NYC’s impressive skyline.

Their enclosed rooftop allows you to keep the party going, rain or shine. On weekends stop by and enjoy the best brunch in town. Though it is summer, if the weather decides to be chilly you might be given one of their ‘signature’ hooded, red robes.

Speaking of brunch, you are now able to make reservations for brunch, book VIP bottle service and plan parties online via http://rooftopreservation.com/, thanks to YourPortal.

The Gate Keeper

Booze, hooch, cocktail, firewater, hard stuff, spirit, potion, poison, canned heat, rotgut – whatever the hell you call it, when you’re partying, you want it. All you have to do is get past the “gate keeper”. You know, the always-busy, ever-important bartender. Here are 5 tips you may not already know to acquire that delicious beverage.

1. Arrive Early

Get there before the rush & establish a connection or rapport with the bartender. We know you love to be “fashionably late” but when the night gets jammed & they remember your face you’ll be happy you showed an hour early.

2. Boobs = Booze

It’s best if you have them but it works if you stand near them. Boobs are a different form of attention beyond the sweaty, antsy faces that bartender is looking at all night. This works for male & female bartenders & yes, size is directly related to wait time.

3. Assume the Position

Are there two bartenders? Stand in between their “territory”. Each wants to secure their tip & if you’re in the middle there is competition. Stand on their side and they know you have no choice but to wait. Also, stand flush against the bar with both hands on the wood and money out.

4. Don’t take up unnecessary space

On a busy night bar space is synonymous to realty & if you’re taking up space while nursing your beer that spot is no longer lucrative for the bartender & they no longer like you.

5. Tip – In cash

Want to get drink #2 fast? Tip in cash as opposed to your card; cash is visable and stays in their mind. If it’s on the card they won’t know you tipped until the night is over – tip in cash & they’ll remember you on round 2, 3, 4…you get the idea.

Proof of Age

Nothing compares to your 20’s. Lessons of heartbreaks, scholastic woes, roommate turmoil and the true start of the never-ending journey to figuring out who you are and who you want to be are all included in this decade of your life. But the best part about your 20’s is that you get to make a shit ton of mistakes & have a shit ton of fun while doing it!

While Chicago is crawling with pubs & clubs, there’s one nightlife venue that stands above the rest. The Proof is in the VIP experience.

Proof nightclub, conveniently located in the heart of the Gold Coast on Rush, has two unique floors of nightlife that cater to your desires. The exclusive VIP sections are separated from the main club area with unique elevations and glass.

Proof has a more intimate setting on the second floor, where you can enjoy table service with friends, or even book your own sinfully private party. Bars are located throughout the club and extensive champagne and bottle service lists are available at all tables.

So what sets Proof apart from the rest? There’s a good chance you’ll see some celebrity action. Proof is regularly visited by celebrities and athletes such as LMFAO, Whitney Port, Tom Green, MTV’s Ronnie Margo, Michael Trevino, Dennis Quaid & the list goes on and on. What better way to get crazy and create some 20-something stories than starting a sentence with “This one night I met…”

LMFAO & Far East Movement

MTV Ronnie

Michael Trevino from the Vampire Diaries

Alas, not every night can include someone famous. But no worries; at Proof, every night is VIP.

How To Party in Your 40’s & Not Feel Old

You hit your 40s…you could be feeling a little down, but don’t! Haven’t you heard? 40 is the new 30! While this statement is true, it only holds up if you’re at the right bar – otherwise you’re surrounded by 25 year olds and feeling not-so-young again.

It’s time to party with a more upscale crowd. Frontier has just the atmosphere you need. After a long day at work just head over to Frontier’s warm, multi-level space featuring a 40-foot bar, private party room, open-air kitchen and beer garden. The tavern has state-of-the-art ice taps with 16 seasonal and traditional beers, over 20 varieties of canned and bottled beers, specialty cocktails and wine pairings. You can grab dinner and drinks on the main level and then head upstairs to the lounge to watch your favorite game.

Have a rough Monday? Check out Frontier’s “Odd Bit Monday.” You can enjoy exotic dishes, 1/2 off wine bottles and 22oz craft bottles. They have deals everyday of the week and they recently started serving lunch.

Frontier is the place you can go where you won’t have to worry about being the new 30. You can simply be yourself; 40 and all.

Great Chicago Bar Patios

It’s officially spring time in Chicago! Since there’s no more snow, (the wind is still here though) bars have begun to open up their patios. There’s nothing like a beautiful sunny Chicago day or luke-warm night with your favorite drink, so here’s our 2012 patio guide.

Frontier: Plenty of seating, mood lighting and a rustic edge makes Frontier one of the most beautiful patio spots in Chicago.

Deuces and the Diamond: A patio with water works, need we say more? It’s like a scene from the Real House Wives of Chicago. Don’t drink too much, you might fall in!

Casey Moran’s: This awesome bar has two outdoor spaces. Pictured above is the roof top garden, which includes great Chicago views. If you don’t like being high up but want to be outside you can chill out in their beer garden.

Joe’s on Weed: This beautiful patio is great for checking out the NBA playoffs. Joe’s is also dog friendly. It hosts a weekly Doggy Happy Hour on Wednesday evenings on their outdoor patio. They even offer treats and water for the pups.

Get out there and enjoy the weather! You can book any of these patio spaces online at ProjectParties.com. Be sure to follow our FB page for more venue info.

Best Bar Drinks

Drinking is a universal activity. Yet from our experience many people don’t know which drinks to order. Most people get flustered when the bartender or waitress shows up and end up ordering the same thing everywhere they go. Next time you go out try one of these options.

1. The Classic: Cosmopolitan

This is one of my favorite drinks to order (and was my first legally ordered drink). Cosmos are usually good and strong.  A few of these will add some life and color to your party. Average price, $8

2. The New Classic: The Lemon Drop

This drink has become more popular in recent years. The sourness of the lemon combined with a touch of sweet turns vodka into something amazing. Think of this as the adult version of lemonade. Average price, $7-9

3. The Best Drink You’ve  Never Tried: The Buttery Nipple

It’s like dessert in a cup. It’s technically a shot, none the less, it’s strong and sweet. Price varies.

4. For Fun: Tequila Sunrise

This drink just makes you feel good. Beware though, not everyone can make these well. Prices vary depending on the type of tequila. Average price $7
